Country singer drops 70 pounds, sets new weight loss goal after years of breathlessness on stage

Nate Smith is a new man thanks to his weight loss journey.

The country music star admitted he used to feel out of breath performing simple tasks, but losing more than 70 pounds has given him his life back.

While attending the Sports Illustrated and Tight End University’s Tight Ends & Friends Concert at The Pinnacle in Nashville last month, the “Bulletproof” singer told People magazine he has a new goal in mind.

“I think I want to get under 200 lbs.,” Smith said. “So I was like 275 lbs., somewhere in that world. But I want to get down to like 185 lbs. again.”

When asked what motivates the “Whiskey on You” singer to pursue a healthier lifestyle, Smith said he wanted to be able to perform at his best for his fans.

“Keeping the energy on stage and making sure I do that, because I think that takes care of the fans,” Smith noted before adding, “I just feel better. It’s nice to be able to wear clothes that I like.”

While referring to his red carpet attire, Smith said, “This is a large. I’ve been double X for the last five or six years, so I’m feeling really good.”

The “World on Fire” musician boasted about the endless positive benefits from his change.

“I don’t sweat anymore, which is amazing,” Smith said. “I used to be totally out of breath tying my shoes.”

He added, “I can jump around a lot more.”

Following a medical scare in 2024, Smith began addressing health issues including overeating and drinking too much. Within a few months, the singer was already down nearly 50lbs. from simply reducing his daily caloric intake.

Country singer Nate Smith now hopes to drop below 200 pounds while continuing to manage his eating habits.

“I still struggle with some binge eating,” Smith also told the outlet at the time. “And if I want to have it, I’m going to have it.

“But I want to find a way to make it a treat versus a lifestyle thing. If I decide I’m going to have mac and cheese, it’s okay.”

He added, “I’m not even close to my goal. But I’m way happier where I’m at, and I feel like better about the way I look.”
