Graphic Warning: Beauty Influencer Shot And Killed During TikTok Live

Valeria Marquez, a rising Mexican beauty influencer, was shot and killed on camera during a TikTok live stream from a Zapopan salon. Authorities are now treating the killing as a potential femicide, a growing concern in Mexico’s battle against gender-based violence.

In a harrowing incident that shocked both followers and authorities, 23-year-old beauty influencer Valeria Marquez was fatally shot while live streaming on TikTok from a beauty salon in Zapopan, Jalisco.

The broadcast captured her final moments—she was seated calmly, wearing a bodysuit seen in a recent Instagram photo, cradling a stuffed pig in her lap. Before the stream went silent, she was heard saying in Spanish, “They’re coming,” followed by a male voice greeting her, to which she replied, “yes,” and then muted the audio. Moments later, she was gunned down on camera.

According to a statement by the Jalisco state attorney general’s office, emergency responders confirmed Marquez’s death at the scene. Authorities suspect a man entered the salon and intentionally fired a firearm at her. The case is now being investigated as a possible femicide—a term defined by the United Nations as the intentional killing of women based on their gender.

Femicide Crisis in Mexico Draws Global Attention

The tragedy shines a spotlight on Mexico’s ongoing struggle with gender-based violence. In 2024 alone, nearly 800 femicide cases have been reported, making Mexico one of the countries with the highest rates of such crimes in Latin America. Most of these attacks involve individuals known to the victims—family members, acquaintances, or community figures.

The beauty influencer’s social media presence exploded posthumously, with her Instagram followers growing from under 100,000 to nearly 260,000 as fans and viewers flooded her recent posts with condolences and outrage. As investigators continue to gather evidence, Marquez’s body has been sent to the Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences for autopsy and formal identification.

For content creators and everyday citizens alike, this chilling event serves as a reminder of the vulnerabilities we all face—especially women in the public eye. Whether online or offline, situational awareness and personal safety must remain a top priority.

Safety Tip: If you’re a public figure or frequently share your location online, consider delaying live posts and being cautious about sharing real-time whereabouts to minimize personal risk.
