FORT WORTH, TX — A 37-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday after allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and confronting the occupants, according to the Fort Worth Police Department.
Local media reported that officers responded to a shooting call at an apartment complex on Watermark Drive, where they found Michael James Andree deceased on the third-floor landing. Investigators determined that Andree had unlawfully entered his ex-girlfriend’s residence and encountered both her and another individual as they were attempting to enter the apartment.
During the confrontation, the other individual—identified as the suspected shooter—drew a firearm and shot Andree multiple times, striking him at least once. Police stated that the shooter remained at the scene and has been cooperating with the investigation. As of the latest update, no arrests have been made.
Home Defense and Legal Considerations
This incident underscores the importance of understanding self-defense laws, particularly in home invasion scenarios. In Texas, the Castle Doctrine allows individuals to use deadly force against an intruder if they reasonably believe it is necessary to protect themselves from imminent harm. However, every self-defense situation is unique, and those involved should always contact law enforcement immediately and seek legal counsel to ensure their actions are justified under the law.
