Clerk Fatally Shoots Alleged Robber at Cincinnati Gas Station

PADDOCK HILLS, OH — An early morning attempted robbery at a BP gas station in Paddock Hills ended in tragedy when a store clerk shot and killed the alleged robber. The incident took place just before 3 a.m. on the corner of Reading Road and Tennessee Avenue.

According to reports, the suspect, identified as 57-year-old Dana Bruenton, entered the BP station and demanded money from the clerk on duty. After the clerk opened the cash register, Bruenton allegedly ordered the clerk to get on the ground. The clerk refused, leading to a struggle between the two. During the altercation, the clerk retrieved a firearm kept behind the counter and shot Bruenton.

Local law enforcement and paramedics arrived at the scene within minutes of the first 911 call, which was made at 2:49 a.m. Despite their efforts, Bruenton succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to UC Medical Center.

Witnesses and patrons familiar with the clerk described him as a good-natured individual who typically minds his own business. JJ Wilbon, a frequent visitor to the station, expressed surprise at the clerk’s involvement in the shooting but ultimately felt that the clerk acted in self-defense.

Bruenton had a criminal history dating back to the 1980s, including convictions for aggravated robbery and assault. In the month leading up to the incident, Bruenton was arrested twice, once for allegedly attacking someone with a wrench and again for attempting to steal groceries.

Local police have not yet confirmed the clerk’s account of the events. The clerk was questioned by authorities after the incident but was released shortly thereafter. The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.
