BREAKING: ATF Director Reportedly Resigns
While there is not yet confirmation of this from official sources or the White House, Jared Yanis at Guns & Gadgets on YouTube shared a letter late yesterday allegedly from ATF Director Steve Dettlebach to President Joe Biden announcing his resignation effective January 18, 2025.
“Pursuant to the Memorandum for Presidential Appointees on Guidance on Letters of Resignation dated December 18, 2024, I hereby tender my resignation as Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive (ATF), effective as of January 18, 2025,” the letter reads.
“It was the honor of my professional career to serve at ATF in your Administration. As you said when nominating me to be ATF Director, ‘The mission of this agency isn’t controversial. It’s public safety.’ I have now seen the brave and talented people at ATF live out your words for years. And we have realized results,” Dettelbach continues in the letter.
Dettlebach has been under constant fire as the head of an ATF, who under his leadership has seemingly worked to suppress the rights of Americans more than go after actual criminals.
“Dettelbach has faced sharp criticism from gun rights groups and Capitol Hill Republicans, particularly for his role in advancing Biden administration gun control policies. These include regulations on so-called ghost guns, devices converting pistols into short-barreled rifles and unlicensed gun sellers and gestapo-like tactics from ATF agents including the killing of Little Rock Airport Executive Director Bryan Malinowski during the execution of a questionable no-knock warrant,” we just wrote yesterday on TTAG.
President-Elect Donald Trump had vowed to fire Dettelbach on day one of his administration. Now it seems he won’t have that opportunity.
“I have told you in the previous video I put out today about the future of the ATF, that he did say he was going to quit before Trump takes office, like a coward,” Yanis says in the video. Check out what Yanis has to say about the resignation in the following video.
