Armed Security Guard Halts Hammer-Wielding Intruder in Colorado Springs
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — On Sunday, July 14, around 4 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to reports of a shooting on the 300 block of W. Bijou Street. The incident involved a male suspect who had broken into several businesses in the area.
According to the police investigation, the suspect armed with a hammer attacked and injured a security guard who attempted to stop him. The extent of the security guard’s injuries is currently unknown, but they were transported to the hospital and are expected to recover.
A second security guard confronted the suspect as he continued to advance aggressively. Fearing for his safety and the safety of others, the second guard fired his gun, striking the suspect and ending the threat.
The quick response by the second security guard highlights the importance of being prepared and trained to handle potentially violent situations. When confronted by an armed attacker, having the necessary skills and tools to protect oneself and others can be crucial. In this case, the presence of an armed security guard potentially prevented further harm.
If you carry a firearm for self-defense, regular training and practice can help ensure you are prepared to respond effectively in high-stress situations.
